CHANDIGARH, Punjab—In a significant political development, Punjab chief minister Parkash Badal’s nephew and president of People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) today reportedly joined Congress. He also merged his party into it.
As per sources, the former Punjab finance minister held meeting with Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi in presence of Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh, Partap Singh Bajwa and Ambika Soni in New Delhi. Following which, he joined the Congress party.
As per political analysts, Congress will benefit with the merger of PPP which has considerable sway in some districts of Malwa region.
It is notable that Amarinder Singh has been trying to form grand alliance of “like-minded” parties in view of success received by the grand alliance in Bihar. Merger of PPP in Congress is also considered as his brain child.
