AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—An exclusive meeting was held between the Panj Piare of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, SGPC President Avtar Makkar, Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh and Secretary Roop Singh. The meeting took place on December 11. As per Sikh24’s internal sources within the SGPC, the meeting was requested by the SGPC executives. SGPC apparently wanted to pressurize the Panj Piare for taking back their order of terminating appointed Jathedars responsible for exonerating Sirsa cult chief in blasphemous case. SGPC is trying to minimize the chances of disturbance during the meeting of ex-Jathedars taking place tomorrow, December 14.
So far, no official statement has been made by the SGPC or the Punj Piare. On being contacted by Sikh24, Bhai Satnam Singh Khanda advised to contact SGPC President Avtar Makkar to get details of the meeting. Bhai Khanda did say that the Punj Piare of Sri Akal Takht Sahib are adamant on their stance. Makkar however did not answer the calls despite numerous attempts.
According to information available from internal sources, SGPC President Avtar Makkar has appealed the Panj Piare to refrain from passing new orders. Sikh24 has learnt that the meeting was called by SGPC President Avtar Makkar in wake of upcoming meeting of Takht ex-Jathedars on December 14. These Jathedars were revoked of their titles by the Sarbat Khalsa 2015.
It may be recalled that since pardoning of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the Takht Jathedars have been facing sharp criticism of Sikh devotees due to which they are avoiding any contact with the Sikh sangat.
