North American Sikh Delegation Leaves for Sarbat Khalsa
STOCKTON, California, USA—Yesterday, a delegation of North American Sikhs left for Punjab to attend the Sarbat Khalsa. The five member delegation will be joined by a number of other Sikhs from all over USA and Canada. These leaders have left early to take part in meetings in the run-up to the Sarbat Khalsa.
Sarbat Khalsa is scheduled to take place on November 10. The delegation will represent over 100 North American Gurdwaras and Sikh organizations in Punjab. The Sikh diaspora had earlier resolved to unite on three resolutions for the Sarbat Khalsa –
1) The Sikh diaspora owes allegiance to Guru Granth Sahib. As a sovereign state of people, we pass resolution to seek independence of Akal Takht Sahib.
2) We support Sarbat Khalsa and North American Sikhs will attend by sending a team of representatives. Our immediate call is to appoint interim Jathedars and seek proper procedures for establishment of Jathedars and Sarbat Khalsa by Vaisakhi 2016.
3) The summit calls for the establishment of a North American Sikh umbrella organization. It is announced to be a coalition of Sikh organizations with every Gurdwara participants having 2 members and organizations having one representative. The organization structure shall be finalized by April 2016.
