New Book: The Valiant Jaswant Singh Khalra - ਮਰਜੀਵੜਾ (English & Punjabi)

We are pleased to announce our new book for children and young adults: an illustrated biography of iconic human rights activist — Jaswant Singh Khalra.
The Valiant - Jaswant Singh Khalra - ਮਰਜੀਵੜਾ is fully illustrated in two hardcover editions of 225 pages each (Punjabi and English) and is written by Gurmeet Kaur, author of the series Fascinating Folktales of Punjab.
In this historical biography, the first of its kind, the author takes her young readers on a journey through the life and times of Jaswant Singh Khalra (1952 - 1995), who was tortured and murdered in custody for valiantly standing by the hapless victims of state oppression; while painting in backdrop a comprehensive overview of the recent history of the Sikhs and Punjab.  
The book was launched during the last week of October and it has received accolades from academics, authors, community activists and human rights defenders; the most poignant of which came from Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra as “... ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਹ ਰੋਕ ਕੇ ਪੜ੍ਹੀ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਵੇ। ਗੁਰਮੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਹੁਰਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਤੇ ਪੰਥ ਦੇ ਦਰਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਰੇ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਖ਼ੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਹੱਥ-ਚਿੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਵੀ ਬਾਕਮਾਲ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਵਿਚ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ।” (English translation: ... I held my breath while reading the entire book; I felt the words were my own. Gurmeet Kaur has taken this task on with great care, understanding the pains of Punjab and our panth. The beautiful artwork and historical pictures help further the subject matter understanding.”)
