MANY astrologers, tantriks and the like have been advertising in newspapers, and on radio and TV that they can solve all kinds of problems for people by predicting their fortunes with the help of stones and so on. They are charging lots of money for this purpose.
The Tarksheel (Rational) Cultural Society of Canada is of the opinion that nobody can tell anyone’s future or change anyone’s future with gems and stones. So the society sent a challenge to all astrologers specially those advertising such kind of claims to come forward on August 2 at the Grand Taj banquet hall in Surrey to prove their claims that astrology is a science and also to prove that their predictions are 100 per cent true. The society called all these astrologers through newspapers, radio and TV.
But on August 2 at the given time (noon), when the hall was full, no astrologer showed him up! Despite repeatedly announcing from the stage for more than an hour, nobody came forward to win $100,000 offered by the society.
After this, the society members explained that astrology is not a science; it is mere guesswork. Avtar Gill, president, pointed out that the results of science can be proved and gives 100 per cent correct results. But the predictions of astrologers have proven to be false most of the time. Gill also said that the basics of astrology are totally outdated. For example, astrologers are still claiming that the sun and moon are planets, but everyone knows that the sun is a star and the moon a satellite. Yet not a single astrologer has countered this theory even now. So it means astrologers are still holding on to the old notions which have no value in this era of science. Gill raised many more points like this and also showed a cheque of $100,000 which would be handed to the person giving the correct answers to 10 questions asked by the society.
Other speakers included Gurvinder Singh Dhaliwal, talk show host of Radio Sher-e-Punjab, Gill Hardeep, Punjabi singer, and Jasvir K. Manguwal, Parminder Swaich and Gurpreet Bhadaur, executive members of the society.
Lecturer Bikkar Singh Bassi also demanded that these kinds of unsocial activities of grabbing money from the people by making false claims should be banned.
At the end of the event, Jagroop Dhaliwal, secretary of the society, thanked all who attended the function.
It was also a great surprise that beside the money offered by the society, many more people also offered a large amount of money to the society to continue this challenge.
