LONGOWAL, Punjab—During a program organized in Longowal to mark 31st death anniversary of Sant Harchand Singh Longowal, Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Badal did not spare the chance to condemn his political opponents.  He said that Congress had betrayed Punjab shamelessly in 1980’s and has continued to do so today.  He said that Rajiv Gandhi led Union government of India did not serve onto its promise of transferring Chandigarh to Punjab as per Rajiv-Longowal accord.
Badal said that the non-deliverance of promises by Congress government of transferring Punjabi speaking areas back to Punjab and allotting fair share of its river waters were the main reasons to led to Longowal’s assassination.
Indirectly pointing fingers towards Surjit Barnala, Badal said that some of our brothers made contract with the Union government of India at the cost of Punjab’s rights just to come into power.Similarly, lashing out at Chief Minister Parkash Badal for blaming Congress of betraying Punjab during Longowal’s death anniversary, head of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Captain Amarinder Singh said that the Badal was shedding crocodile tears.
