MALERKOTLA, Punjab—Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Malerkotla Preeti Sukhija rejected bail plea of AAP legislator Naresh Kumar Yadav on July 28. It is worth mentioning here that MLA Naresh Kumar Yadav, who is facing charges for desecrating Quran in Malerkotla, is on judicial remand till August 1.
Informing Sikh24 about rejection of bail by the Sub-divisional Magistrate, Prosecution lawyer Ashwani Mattu informed that the panel of Defense lawyers (Advocate Himmat Singh Shergill, Advocate Harjot Singh Bains, Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema and Advocate Govinder Mittal) pleaded the Court for granting bail to AAP legislator Naresh Kumar Yadav but the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate did not accept their arguments.
On being contacted by Sikh24, Advocate Himmat Singh Shergill said that they respect the Court’s verdict but will challenge the same in District Courts after getting copy of verdict addressed by SDM.
Sikh24 has learned that the SDM decision was also condemned by a local lawyer Advocate Parvez Akhtar during the debate over bail plea in the court. The panel of defense lawyers strongly objected over his arguments but the lawyer Parvez Akhtar claimed that he was given power of attorney by the complainant of the sacrilege.
