MALERKOTLA, Punjab—Following the two day police remand, AAP MLA Naresh Kumar Yadav was produced before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Preeti Sukhija on July 27. Judicial Magistrate Preeti Sukhija refused to extend police remand and sent Yadav to judicial remand till August 1. AAP legislator Naresh Kumar Yadav was arrested from Delhi by the Punjab police in relation to desecration of Holy Quran Sharif in Malerkotla on June 24.
Appearing before the SDM on behalf of the Police, the prosecution lawyer sought three days extension in police remand of Yadav. Sharply reacting to this plea, the defense lawyers Himmat Singh Shergill, Rajat Gautam, Harjot Singh Bains, Harpal Singh Cheema and Govinder Mittal contended that the police were not having even single evidence against AAP legislator Naresh Kumar Yadav.
Raising objections over alleged statement of prime accused Vijay Kumar against Naresh Yadav, the defense lawyers argued that Vijay Kumar had a criminal record and he was held guilty by a US court in a similar case. Claiming of Vijay Kumar’s tie-up with communal Hindu body RSS, the lawyers stated that the AAP legislator was being framed under highly deliberated policy to defame AAP in Punjab.
Addressing the media outside the court complex, AAP’s state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur alleged that the Punjab government was playing foul to defame AAP in Punjab.
