Despite apology, AAP leader Khetan booked for hurting Sikh Sentiments

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—As the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is focusing on gaining power in Punjab, its troubles are however increasing day by day. After registration of case against its MLA Naresh Yadav in Malerkotla Quran sacrilege incident, another senior leader Ashish Khetan has also been booked for hurting Sikh sentiments on complaint of All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) president Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad.
During a rally led by AAP’s national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal at Amritsar on July 3, Khetan compared the Youth Manifesto released on the occasion, with Guru Granth Sahib, Bhagwad Gita and Quran Sharif. His wording was, “This manifesto is our Guru Granth Sahib, Gita and Quran”, which created controversy. The AAP leader apologized next day, however, several have continued to express distress over the statement.
A case was registered against him under section 295-A of Indian Penal Code (IPC) in civil lines Police station in Amritsar on Wednesday late night, said Amar Singh Chahal, Police commissioner of Amritsar.
Peer Mohammad said that for Khetan’s statement, Kejriwal should have apologizes being party chief, but he did not do so. “It suggests that the party did not take this issue seriously. So, we decided to lodge a complaint against his party leader”, he added.
