FARIDKOT, Punjab—A prominent follower of the Sirsa based Sacha Sauda cult was reportedly shot at by two unidentified assailants in village Burj Jawahar Singh of Faridkot district. The incident occurred in the wee hours of June 13 at around 5:30 AM when the victim was opening his shop. The victim was admitted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College of Faridkot from where he was referred to DMC, Ludhiana.
As the new spread around adjacent areas, the Sirsa cult disciples started gathering in the village Burj Jawahar Singh Wala. At the time of writing this news, situation in the village was tensed.
The victim has been identified as Gurdev Singh, aged 40, of the Burj Jawahar Singh Wala.
It may be recalled here that a Holy Scripture of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was stolen from this village on June 1. Later, the desecration incidents in October last year compelled the Sikh masses to stage protests. Bullets were showered on the peaceful protesting Sikhs at village Behbal Klan leaving two Sikhs Bhai Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Bhai Gurjit Singh dead who were seeking arrest of culprits responsible for desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Punjab government had later handed over the investigation of the case to Central Bureau of Investigation which has still not presented any report.
