Harmandar Sahib

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Interim Jathedar, Bhai Dhian Singh Mand has been taken into police custody on “precautionary measures”.  Bhai Dhian Singh Mand was scheduled to address the Sikh Sangat from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on the 32nd Ghallughar Diwas anniversary.  Bhai Mand was taken into custody by the Ferozepur police just moments ago.
Yesterday, on May 1, Sarbat Khalsa Jathedars, including Bhai Dhian Singh Mand had appealed to the Sikh Sangat to arrive at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in large numbers to commemorate the 32nd  Ghallughara Diwas.
While Panthik organizations are gearing up to attend the Ghallughara Diwas, SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar has appealed to the Sikh Sangat to maintain peace during the commemoration programs.
Speaking with Sikh24 yesterday, Makkar said that Sri Harmandir Sahib symbolizes the concept of unity of all communities so shouting radical slogans, brandishing swords and creating disturbance misaligns the image of Sikhism. He has appealed to everyone to attend the commemoration with respect and devotion.
He has said that the SGPC will amplify and increase the security inside the Sri Darbar Sahib Complex to tackle any untoward incident on the occasion. Commenting on the statements issued by radical bodies to stop Giani Gurbachan Singh from delivering a customary address, S. Makkar stated that Giani Gurbachan Singh will deliver the customary address without any inconvenience.
Slamming the Shiv sena activists for issuing radical statements against Sikhs, Makkar appealed the Punjab government to take legal action against such communal elements
