BANGA, Punjab—A saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji was found desecrated earlier today in village Jhander Kalan near Banga. Several torn angs were recovered by local Sikhs.
Local police have taken over the investigation and the torn angs are currently in their possession. No arrests have been made so far.
Several Panthik organizations arrived here today and performed ardas seeking forgiveness and asking that the culprits be brought to justice.
Gurdeep Singh Bathinda of the United Akali Dal told Sikh24 that the incident is shameful for the Government of Punjab. “Miscreants were again able to desecrate a saroop of Guru Granth and the Punjab Government has again failed in nabbing the culprits,” he said.
Guru Granth Sahib satkar committee chief, Bhai Balbir Singh Mucchal, also condemned the incident and told Sikhs across Punjab to remain vigilant and not depend on the police to protect the Gurdwaras. “We need to stay alert and protect our Guru and our Gurdwaras ourselves since the Punjab Government has failed in its duties,” he added.
Last year, dozens of similar cases shocked the Sikh Sangat across Punjab as Guru Granth Sahib’s saroops were desecrated on a large scale.
