CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Punjab & Haryana High Court today sanctioned bail to Sikh youth leader Bhai Papalpreet Singh in a sedition case registered against him.  Bhai Papalpreet Singh was charged for helping organize the Sarbat Khalsa 2015 held at village Chabba on November 10, 2015. He also had read a letter by Sikh intellectual and activist Bhai Narain Singh Chaura during the event.

Sikh24 has learned that the prosecution lawyer accused Bhai Papalpreet Singh for having ties with a Babbar Khalsa group.  During the court session, prosecution lawyer cited an earlier case of sedition registered against him some years ago for rebuilding houses of Sikh martyr families.
However, the defence lawyer contended before the court that it was unfair to relate his client with any militant groups without any evidence.  Striking at the accusations made in FIR registered against Bhai Papalpreet Singh, the defence lawyer said that Bhai Narain Singh Chaura was already serving sentence in different cases.  “How they could claim Bhai Chaura as an active member of the Babbar Khalsa is perplexing, he’s in jail and has no way of communicating with anyone aside from his legal counsel and family,” the defense attorney asserted.
Sources informed Sikh24 News that the judge agreed with the contention of defence lawyer and warned the police authorities and government to refrain from misusing powers assigned to them under political influence.
