Senior Akali Leader Slams Indian Prime Minister as Differences Grow Between Akalis and BJP

PATIALA, Punjab—Senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa on Sunday alleged that Modi government is not serious and sensitive about the Sikh issues.
Statement by Dhindsa has come as a surprise since he has openly attacked the senior BJP leader and the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Akalis and BJP currently hold a nexus in Punjab, where they formed a joint Government during the previously held State elections.
“Excluding Sikh regiment from the republic day parade at New Delhi is not understandable. The union government did not even allow SAD leaders to meet the France president who was chief guest during the parade,” Dhindsa said during a conference held at Punjabi university here.
He claimed that the SAD leaders frequently take up the Sikh issue with the prime minister Narendra Modi but he is not taking the issues seriously.
Statement by Dhindsa has brought up the question that if Indian Prime Minister is not interested in issues taken up by the Akali Dal, why is it still holding a nexus in Punjab with the BJP.
