BATHINDA, Punjab—Addressing a press conference in Bathinda, former DGP (Prisons) Shashi Kant said that the Punjab government has failed in delivering justice to the victims of Behbal Kalan shooting. He stated that the Punjab government was shielding the Police contingents responsible for opening gunfire on the peaceful Sikh protesters at Behbal Klan.
Commenting on the Government appointed commission headed by Justice Zora Singh, the Ex-DGP said that Justice Zora Singh has failed in exposing the Police cops responsible for the incident. He added that Justice Zora Singh spent only 15 minutes on the site of the incident to record witnesses and collect evidences.
Pained over the rising incidents of suicides by farmers across Punjab, Shashi Kant said that the anti-farmer policies of Punjab government have compelled the farmers to commit suicide. He demanded that the debt-ridden farmers should be given financial aids to settle their lives.
He informed that the Katju Commission headed by Ex-Judge of Supreme Court Justice Markanday Katju has started probing the Behbal Klan tragedy. He said that a detailed report on the incident would be prepared soon and the Police cops responsible for the martyrdom of two innocent Sikh youths will also be named in the report.
